You are required under Australian Workplace Health and Safety code of practice to provide adequate means to respond and contain potential liquid spills. An appropriate response to liquid spills in the workplace requires an understanding of the stored products safety data sheet (SDS) which provides guidance on correct storage and clean up procedures and having the appropriate spill response products on hand.
Whilst the nature of all spills are different. Liquid spills in the workplace have the capacity to be a serious threat to the health of your staff, the environment and your equipment. Liquid spills that are not responded to quickly, becoming an increasing threat, and may affect productivity (e.g. should the area need to be evacuated) and result in financial loss (loss of product, and threat to additional stored products).
